“Pivotal Moments in Caring for the Earth” at The Donald Gallery at South Presbyterian
Jennifer Madelin Burns was first inspired to care for the Earth and its waterways, such as the Hudson River, while on the Clearwater Sloop for a third-grade field trip. Her work with primed canvas reflects this early spark of passion—vivid oil paintings evoke a sense of natural beauty, childlike wonder, and personal accountability. Art, skill, and passion for our natural world come to vibrant life in a joint showing at The Donald Gallery through October 20th.
OPENING EVENT: Sunday, September 8th at 11:30AM with the artists/light refreshments.

The Peekskill Riots Episode 2: “The Friendly Town By The River” – Documentary Film Screening
Join us for a screening of Episode 2 in this fascinating five-part docu-series followed by a discussion led by series creator, and documentary filmmaker Jon Scott Bennett. Episode 2 explores the duality of Peekskill. The Ku Klux Klan had a presence in the areas surrounding Peekskill in the early 20th Century. In the 1930s and 40s, summer colonies, made up of predominantly working-class Jewish families, sprang up in the area. The residents of these colonies adhered to a diverse assortment of leftist ideologies, which clashed with the more conservative ideologies held by the native residents of the Peekskill area. These bubbling tensions eventually led to the Peekskill Riots in 1949. The screening will take place in Room C on the 3rd Floor of the Library. Cost: Free
