Irvington — Rivertowns residents may not be aware of how much information is available about what’s happening, or has happened, in their villages, so the Rivertowns Current is bringing you a primer on how to stay informed and engaged locally.
Here’s a summary of how to stay well-informed about Irvington.

Village Communications
Irvington Alerts (Mass Notification System | CivicReady) sends emergency alerts and other notifications via phone call, text message, and/or email, based on the subscriber’s preferences. To subscribe to Emergency SMS text messages only, text IrvingtonNY to 38276. There is also a mobile app available. Subscribers receive notifications from the Village, Library, and Parks & Recreation Department; as well as meeting notices from boards and committees.

The How Do I...? page on the website contains links to information about permits, taxes, sanitation, financial documents, board submissions and approvals, meeting minutes and videos, signing up for alerts and notifications; and contacting the mayor, trustees, Village Administrator, and other departments or staff.
Board Meetings:
Board meetings are held in the Trustees Meeting Room of Irvington Town Hall, at 85 Main Street. The public is welcome to attend in person or join via Zoom. The agenda and calendar listings include a link to the Zoom meeting.
An icon linking to a calendar of all board meetings is on the website’s home page. Clicking on a meeting date links to the meeting’s listing, where the “More Details” link leads to the page from which the agenda is downloadable.

Each regular meeting includes two public comment periods: One near the beginning of the meeting and one at the end.
Board of Trustees:
Regular meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, from 7-10 p.m.
Work sessions are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, from 7-10 p.m.
The board occasionally calls a special meeting, not regularly scheduled.

Written correspondence received by noon on Friday prior to a regular meeting will be included on the agenda as official correspondence in the record. Correspondence received after the noon deadline will be included on the agenda for the next regular meeting.
Architectural Review Board:
Reviews all new construction, exterior modifications on existing structures, fencing, and signage. The ARB evaluates applications on the basis of compatibility and harmony with neighboring structures and properties, and impact on the historic character of the neighborhood and village.
Meets on the 4th Monday of each month, from 8-10 p.m., except in September, when the meeting will be on Tuesday.
Planning Board:
This land use board reviews and approves special permits, subdivisions, site plans, and other land use issues. The board may also assist with the development or update of a Comprehensive Land Use Plan for the village.
Meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month, from 7-11 p.m., except for this October, when the meeting will be on Tuesday.
Zoning Board:
This quasi-judicial body rules on interpretations of the Zoning Code and requests for variances from the Code.
Meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
