President Biden to Visit Irvington on Thursday, 4/25 - Local School Districts Announce Early Dismissals
Expect road closures, extra traffic, and early school dismissals

Irvington — President Biden is expected to visit Irvington this week on Thursday, April 25th. According to a statement from the Irvington Police Department, “Significant traffic impacts are expected from mid-afternoon through rush hour. In addition, there will also be several major thoroughfares subject to long-term closures in Westchester County, which will add to the traffic impacts on secondary roads. Rail service on Metro-North’s Hudson Line is not expected to be impacted.”
The police department advises motorists to avoid traveling in the area after 2 PM. The police and the Village of Irvington said they are not at liberty to provide any additional information about timing or specific road closure details due to security concerns.
Irvington schools will be closing early on Thursday in anticipation of the impact of the Presidential visit. The school district announced that Dows Lane Elementary School will dismiss students at 11:15 AM, Irvington High School will dismiss students at 11:41 AM, Main Street School will dismiss students at 12:10 PM, and Irvington Middle School will dismiss students at 12:20 PM. All afternoon and evening activities in the Irvington Schools are canceled as well.
Dobbs Ferry announced that K-2 will dismiss at 1 PM, grades 3-5 will dismiss at 1:30 PM, and the Middle School and High School will dismiss at 1:30 PM. The district-wide choral festival will take place from 1:00-1:45 PM, but the Dobbs school district said “After-school activities including athletics may be rescheduled as well” and that families should keep watch for additional information.
Ardsley announced that Ardsley High School will release students at 11:04 AM, Ardsley Middle School will release students at 11:39 AM, and Concord Road Elementary School will release students at 12:14 PM. All after-school and evening activities and programs will be canceled.
Hastings-on-Hudson announced that the middle school and high school will release students at 12:45 PM, and Hillside Elementary School will release students at 1 PM (Hillside buses will still run, just one hour and 45 minutes ahead of the usual schedule). Afterschool events will be rescheduled for another day.
Several news outlets have reported that the President will be in town to attend a fundraising event hosted by husband and wife Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones (who own a house in Irvington), and fashion designer Eileen Fisher, as well as Rodge and Barbara Cohen, Bob Goodman and Jayne Lipman, John Shapiro and Shonni Silverberg, and Jonathan and Judy Siegel. Tickets to the sold-out event start at $3,300 and go up to $100,000. The exact location of the fundraising event has not been announced. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Biden Victory Fund.
