Hastings-on-Hudson, NY – In a village as safe as Hastings-on-Hudson, it’s easy to get complacent about not locking the doors to one’s home or car. However, the Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department recently reminded area residents to remain vigilant in locking their doors after a burglary occurred recently at a home on Broadway.
According to the alert that was sent by the police department on Sunday, May 19th via email, “The suspect [in the home burglary], described as a male, 5’9”, wearing all black, was armed with a handgun and demanded money and jewelry from the victim. No injuries were reported at the scene, and officers checked the area but could not locate the suspect.”
One of the two adult victims of the home invasion posted on social media on Friday, May 17th, that last Saturday, he and his wife awoke to find an armed masked man in their bedroom pointing a gun at them at 4:30 in the morning. According to the posting, the alleged robber tied up the couple and ransacked the house before leaving. The couple and their children were otherwise unharmed, according to the victim’s account.
“To protect the investigation's integrity and respect the victim's privacy, no other information can be released now,” the police department stated in the email notice sent to residents. “In addition, the Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department reminds residents to always be vigilant in keeping their homes and vehicles locked and secured.”
Hastings-on-Hudson is generally regarded as an extremely safe place to live. According to the FBI Crime Data Explorer, there was only 1 reported violent crime in the village in 2022 (the most recent year for which data were provided).
The alert sent by Hastings PD also reminded residents that the Hastings-on-Hudson Crime Prevention team offers free crime prevention surveys to all residents. To request a survey, call the police desk at 914-478-2344.
