Paving Project Now Underway on Route 9
The milling and paving work is expected to take about 6-8 weeks to complete

Rivertowns — Drivin’ on 9 just got a little more complicated for the next few weeks — at least at night.
Starting on June 17th, the New York State Department of Transportation began milling and paving along Route 9, also known as Broadway, from Hastings-on-Hudson through Tarrytown. The work is expected to take about 6-8 weeks, depending on the weather (with a break scheduled during the 4th of July holiday week).
Each segment of the Route 9 project is expected to cover about 6,000 feet of roadway and to take 5-6 days to complete. The road updates will start at Farragut Avenue in Hastings and proceed northward up to Ardsley Avenue in Irvington.
In Hastings-on-Hudson, the work is scheduled to occur in the evenings, between 9 PM-6 AM. There will be no parking on Route 9 during the milling and paving operations.
According to a notice sent by Hastings-on-Hudson Village Manager Mary Beth Murphy, “This work, although disruptive, will result in repaired catch basins, curbs that properly channel stormwater, ADA-compliant ramps at sidewalk crossings, and a smooth, pothole-free, and properly graded roadway.”
In Dobbs Ferry, the Route 9 work is scheduled to take place from Sunday through Thursday, between 7 PM-6 AM. Parking is not allowed during these times and any cars left in active work areas will be towed to the Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Park parking lot. According to the Village of Dobbs Ferry, “Residents living in the construction area are urged to park overnight on Main and Cedar Streets or one of the nearby side streets. Alternate side of the street restrictions will be suspended during this time to make more parking spaces available.”
In Irvington, all work will be done from Sunday through Thursday, between the hours of 7 PM - 6 AM. The work on Route 9 is expected to begin on or around June 24th in Irvington in a small section of the southern part of Irvington (south of Ardsley Avenue), with most of the work expected to start on or around July 8th. According to the Village of Irvington, “For the limited areas where overnight parking is available on Broadway, those residents are encouraged to park on Main Street instead.”
Drivers in Hastings, Dobbs, and Irvington should expect Route 9 to remain open to traffic during the day. At night, residents should be prepared for noise, dust, and temporary night lighting. Those driving at night may experience delays in the construction areas.
